  After thirty years of playing, dartitis struck me overnight as if my 'on' switch had been turned off.

That was in April and since then this thing's amused itself by taking a merry route through several stages -
Stage 1: couldn't let go;
Stage 2: could let go only by chucking hard at the wall and hopefully hit the board;
Stage 3: complete arm seizure;
Stage 4: I'm now trying much heavier darts and can let go, but with no hope of hitting anything properly (which is progress I suppose) until I get to the final double which is where I fall apart completely and everybody, including myself, is well advised to wear full-face crash helmets and stab vests.

Even practicing at home under no pressure, the same things happen. I'm amazed at how frustrating and stroke-inducing this can be... after all, it's only a game!

The season begins in September - short of a miracle, I can see myself dropped and sitting at the back quietly getting sloshed and wishing I was somewhere else. But I'm not giving up, somehow I'll beat the Big D.

  I have recently developed dartitis, I am the captain of my district team and was sort after by many of the top clubs and I started to feel like I was expected to throw great darts every time I played, and thats where it started for me I think.
I have a friend who is a Hypno-therapist and he did some exercises with me to help me relax and not get so stressed before games, he helped me remember the fun and enjoyment we all forget about as we put pressure on ourselves to perform, the hardest trick is to forget about dartitis when your playing, I try to sing a song in my head while I play and concentrate on my breathing and this really helps me.

Hi
You may remember me as the person that said the OED would have to revise their definition, or as more likely omit it from their Tome.

Thought you would like to know that Over the past two months I have been compiling a book on the cause/s & remedy/s of Dartitis. The dreaded will soon be a thing of the past. I still have about six to eight weeks to complete the work before I aquire a publisher, as writing is not my forte! All I can say here is that Dartitis is not a psychological Condition at all but purely a physical one. You can relate this E-Mail to your readers if you so desire.

  Having played in local leagues for 20 years I had never had any problem releasing my darts. However 18 months ago it appeared and I couldnt hardly hit the board, was it confidence? maybe!. What I did and I am now virtually cured was to throw heavier darts and more quickly than normal plus not aiming for anything in particular just to get a rythum - took some getting used to but my theory worked for me. I throw 22 gram darts and now hold them very lightly between my fingers - releasing them is now easy because it feels like im holding nothing!! I am now playing decent darts again (superleague level) standard of play!, its taken but its worked. Good luck.
