While the show was on a quick hiatus after the fist-clenching World Matchplay, the popular TV show returns soon, picking up in Sydney, Australia for the World Series. Sponsored by Ladbrokes Sydney, PDC, and The Star, the riveting competition will air August 18-20 on FOX Sports. Delayed coverage will also air on ITV4. The show last concluded with Gary Anderson taking home the Tokyo Darts Masters Trophy just over a month ago in July.
With star players such as Kyle Anderson, Simon Whitlock, and Peter Wright in this years’s World Series competition, there is without a doubt sure to be some fantastic commentary this year to take in during this three day event.
One of the biggest matchups to keep an eye on this year is Wright vs. Whitlock. With his recent advanced to the finals of the European Darts open, Wright will prove to be tough competition for Whitlock who will be playing with a home crowd behind him, though he doesn’t have a great history of performing well when on TV.
Kyle Anderson also has a home turf advantage being an Aussie native, which is expected to take him far this year. Anderson achieved Top 16 last year at the World Matchplay, as well as reaching quarter-finals of the UK open.
Cody Harris will be heading into the World Series having just finished up representing Team New Zealand at the 2016 World Cup of Darts. He’ll be going up against former world number one and tough competitor Gerwen, which will prove to be an interesting darts match to follow.
To nobody’s surprise, Gary Anderson of Scotland is suspected to be this year’s top performer at the World Series. Of the four World Series events that have taken place, Anderson has won three of them.
2016 offers some very unique and never before seen matchups that are sure to stir things up and keep all the players this year on their feet and performing their very best. Tune in to FOX Sports or ITV to catch the outcome of this year’s games.
