Christmas isn't Christmas without the darts and the World Championship across this period is set to be one of the best, and saddest in history.
It will be Phil Taylor’s last as a professional darts player and will of course be desperate to go out on a high. Naturally, competition is perhaps the hardest it's ever been for him. But who will win out on January 1, 2018?
We take a look at the four players who will be there or thereabouts this Christmas…
We’ll start with The Power. What a career this man has had. With 14 World Championships already under his belt in the PDC he certainly knows how to win.
He hasn't lifted that title since 2013 however and the odds aren't overly favouring him with bookies placing him fourth most likely to win at 8/1.
It would be the fairytale ending for Taylor however and the whole darts world will be backing one of the greatest British sportsmen of all-time.
Most wanting to cash in their sports betting offers will be looking nowhere but Michael van Gerwin.
The Dutchman is a phenomenon at the moment and has picked up the title last year and goes in as favourite priced 5 /6.
This season there's been no stopping him picking up the Premier League and Masters titles. We can certainly see him spoiling the party for the Power at Alexandra Palace.
A runner-up in 2014, Peter Wright’s successful 2017 has placed the Mohican sporting Scotsman second favourite to lift the title this year.
Finishing second in the Premier League and World Matchplay this year, while reaching the Quarter Final in the Grand Prix and Masters has seen Wright have one of his most successful years.
Culminating in a UK Open win, he’ll be desperate to go that one step further and get his name etched on the to World Championship trophy for the very first time.
Another Scot at the pinnacle of world darts at the moment is Gary Anderson. He’ll be chasing a hat-trick of titles and at 6/1 the Flying Scotsman is second favourite to do it.
A runner-up on the Champions League, losing out to Mensur Suljovic, Anderson has played some excellent darts of late and only missed out on the Grand Prix, which he was hotly tipped for to witness the birth of his first child.
That'll be extra motivation for Anderson and he’ll be van Gerwin’s main competition over winter. A January 1 match-up between the two, we wouldn't be surprised.
