dartitis Phil Taylor's advice about throwing a heavy object helped me. I use a heavy steel tip dart and exaggerate my throw. Also just go through a season and shoot with a friend and not worry about what you hit. JUST ENJOY THROWING and laughing with your friends. Give it up! Yes you will lose glory but after a while you will feel the rythem and fun coming back!

I am please to say after gaining the required evidence the OED has now entered 'DARTITIS' into the dictionary.
Don't rush out to buy the latest version here is the definition DARTITIS (a state of nervousness which prevents a player from releasing a dart at the right moment when throwing)
Thanks for everyone's help for providing the required evidence.

I suffered from the dreaded Itis about fifteen years ago, I found to cure it you must have mostof your trailing foot on the floor if not all, keep your concentration on that more so than the darts and persist. It did work for me but you must be patient with it. Good Luck to anyone who attempts this method

An update for those of you that have been following my efforts to obtain recognition and entry to the OED for the word dartitis. ----------------------------------
Dear Mr King
Thank you for your letter concerning dartitis, the accompanying DVD, and your continuing efforts to gather earlier evidence.
As things stand we have assembled a daft entry for dartitis, and the earliest evidence remains the 1981 Darts World quotation that you supplied. At the time of writing, a decision is pending on whether this draft will go forward for publication.

If you have read the main dartitis page on this site then you will know I am trying to get the word ‘dartitis’ recognised and included into the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). I have for the past nine months collected articles, extracts from books and sent these to the OED to show how much the word is in use. In a last attempt ditch attempt I have sent the OED a recorded copy of ‘Darts Tarts’ documentary shown on BBC TV. In the documentary Eric Bristow features along with less well known dart players talking about ‘dartitis’ and how it has affected them.
I believe I have sent enough now to the OED for them to seriously consider the entry of ‘dartitis’ into the dictionary and will let you now the outcome should it be successful.
