PDC Women's Series

It has taken several years for the PDC to finally put in place a Women's Series of events. With the success of Fallon Sherrock in the 2020 PDC World Finals. Women's darts got the shot in the arm it needed. Not only for darts but more recognition for the ladies that play in darts events around the World with little reward other than glory.

With the demise of the BDO, the PDC were the best place to review the women's game results in a series of events for the best women players in the World. Not only can the ladies earn significantly more prize money, but they can also earn places in some of the TV tournaments on the PDC stage.

Following Fallon's PDC World Champion success by beating two of her male counterparts, she has featured in several of the PDC non-racking World Series events. The boost this has given ladies' darts, and darts overall, has been massive. Many supporters back Fallon to win over her male counterparts again and have been rewarded for her achievements. In 2020 the PDC Women's Series grew to attract more ladies than ever to compete. Lias Aston, and the former ten-time ladies World Darts Champion Trina Gulliver MBE, are just two of the many stars that have found the new series a welcome addition to the sport.

At present, ladies can qualify for the new PDC Women's Masters, the Grand Slam of Darts, and the top two by the Women's series order of merit and also book their place in the PDC World Championship Finals.

Beau Greaves, the Current Women's WDF World Champion, entered the PDC Women's event late. However, she finished the 2022 season in second place to Lisa Ashton. Fallon fell into third, ending her hopes to compete for the third successive year in the PDC World Darts Championships.

The PDC introduced a new tournament for women, the Women's Masters. The top eight players by the Women's series order of merit compete in the TV finals alongside the main World Masters event and the disability Masters final.

Fallon missed a few events while on tour with the PDC roadshow, the World Series. This possibly cost her a place in the World Finals. However, she can take some consolidation for winning the first Women's Masters Title earlier in the year

 

Women's Darts

Women's darts have never been given the full recondition it deserves. Fans expect dart players to play against each offer regardless of age or sex. Darts is all about hand-eye coordination, and there is no reason why women cannot compete alongside a man in any event. However, few have the resources and sponsorship to compete on this playing field. The PDC has tried to address this, and the women's overall game has benefitted from their impute.

Women's darts are likely to grow due to the PDC series and the TV stage events women now compete in. However, the manufacturers also need to be on board and support this potential big growth area; not all are showing their support as they could.

In recent years we have seen Women's Football, Cricket and Rugby grow significantly. Spectatorship has also grown, TV has broadcast more, and sponsors of these events have been shown in the best light possible.
