The Walk-on Man

The virtual Walk-on Man on this website has walked many a mile however he has yet to stop at the stage!

How far exactly has he walked? Well for sure I don’t really know however the live step clock gives you some idea. You will see the clock jumps in two’s to reflect the left and right steps mad by the virtual man. Each of the double stride he makes is equal to 1.2 meters in real terms.

On average the Walk-on man walks 64.8 miles per day equivalent to 23,652 miles per year!

Other site information

The New Darts501 website has been totally redesigned. The purpose of the change is to make the site user friendly for all viewing devices. PC users will see the site has got bigger making it easier to read and hopefully navigate. The navigation has also changed with most pages now accessible directly from a dropdown menu however the quick page navigation at the bottom and site search have remained. A new Bing page translation has also been added making the site available in 50 languages. Also the translation will now carry over to other pages you may read.

Tablet and Smart phone users will see the biggest change of all. The New Darts501 will transform and optimise for your viewing devise. Depending on medium you use to view the new website you will see the side navigation move to below the main page text but above the footer. This side information will expand to fill your screen as well as allow the main body text also to expand to the full viewing with of you screen making it easier to read. The top navigation will also change if your viewing device is small i.e. a smart phone. The Navigation will collapse into an expandable viewing menu designed to take advantage of the width of your device. All images and video content will also resize to optimise your viewing experience.

What else is new?

The whole site has been given an overhaul. New graphics, video and new content has also been added. The site still contains content of the earlier version of Darts501 but it just got bigger, reviewed and updated. I hope the new site continues to be the success as the previous versions have been and with new graphics and content I have every reason to believe it will be.

Why change now?

People are now viewing more websites on mobile, tablet devices and this is set to increase over the coming years. Major companies and organisation have opted for cross market website platforms to bring a better user experience when using these devices. Has recently as a few years ago the browser technology was playing catch-up and didn’t fully recognise new coding (see technical) but now there is a push to embrace mobile technology to the full.

iPad, iPhone and Android users

Built into the New Dart501 is a bookmark / home screen icon. By saving the site to your home screen or book marking a page a Darts501 icon will appear rather like an app link designed to site on your screen. This is designed to make it easier for you to return to the website. Although the same icon design will appear the site will automatically detect your device and supply you with an appropriate icon i.e size and quality including HD

Technical

The site has been tested across many different types of devices, browsers and Operating systems. The new website uses HTML5 and CSS3 coding technology that is fully functional across all main browsers and latest OS. Opea Mini used by some mobile users will know from experience this cut down version of a web browser doesn’t support HTML5 so may experience difficulties  with some of the page content however this is an easy fix by just switching browsers. To fully understand what you mobile can view read Mobile HTML5 http://mobilehtml5.org/

PC Users or if you just want to test your browser can follow this link: https://html5test.com/

Videos on this site have in the main been converted to MP4, OVG, WebM and will play the appropriate version your browser supports best. Audio again has been converted to several versions and will play the appropriate version supported by your browser.

Should you experience any uses issues please email me giving details about your device? I.e. OS Win XP, 7, 8, 8.1 or 10 (31/7/15) iOS…., Android, Window Phone Apple PC platform and Browser type and version used.

I hope you enjoy the new website.
